CorEnergy Acquires Crimson’s California Pipeline Assets
Transaction establishes a diversified foundation for future acquisition consideration
Effective February 1, 2021, CorEnergy acquired a 49.50 percent interest in Crimson, with the right to acquire the remaining 50.50 percent interest. The preliminary fair value of the aggregate consideration is approximately $350 million, subject to certain post-closing purchase price adjustments. According to Crimson’s Chairman of the Board John Grier, “Our combined ability to pursue additional opportunities leveraging Crimson’s oil market relationships, together with CorEnergy’s natural gas transmission assets, establishes a diversified foundation for future acquisition consideration.” For details about the transaction, view the press release here.

Chairman of the Board
John Grier is the CEO and Founder of Crimson Pipeline (CP) a company in the business of acquiring and improving the operations of oil and gas pipeline systems. CP made its’ first asset purchase in 2005 and over the past decade, the company has made six additional major acquisitions, five of those from major oil companies.
Before starting the pipeline company, John was primarily in the Exploration and Production (E&P) business and he started Crimson Resource Management with a partner in 1986. The company again purchased oil and gas-producing properties, mostly from major oil companies. John and his partner successfully grew the company making a major divestiture in 2009 and after the sale, the company was split and John continued to keep the pipeline company.
John has a Bachelor’s Degree in Science/Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University.
California Leadership
President
Mandy Kroetsch, is the President at Crimson. Ms. Kroetsch joined Crimson with more than 17 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry. Prior to joining Crimson, she served as the Sacramento Basin Operations Field Manager for California Resources Corporation (CRC), where she was also a member of the Safety Leadership Team. Earlier she served as a Process Engineer for CRC. Before joining CRC, Ms. Kroetsch worked as a Process Engineer for Canadian Natural Resources in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and in a similar role for KemeX Ltd., also in Calgary. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Director of Regulatory Compliance
David Blakeslee, is the Director of Regulatory Compliance and EH&S at Crimson. Mr. Blakeslee has over 39 years of industry experience and has overseen compliance for all state and federal safety, operational, and integrity regulations in California for the past 19 years. His responsibilities include overseeing the company’s compliance, EH&S and community relations. Mr. Blakeslee has been overseeing Crimson’s regulatory compliance since 2011 and prior to that was Kinder Morgan’s West Coast Operations Director over unit train facilities and associated pipelines.
Director of Integrity Management
Bryan Klemm is the Director of Integrity Management at Crimson. Mr. Klemm has 15 years in the energy and pipeline industry, As a dedicated professional, he holds a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and brings extensive expertise in pipeline integrity and risk assessment. As a visionary leader, Mr. Klemm has led the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and processes, fostering a safety-first culture and achieving industry-leading safety records. He is committed to continuous improvement, emphasizing regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Director of Project Engineering
Tyson Foianini is the Director of Project Engineering at Crimson. Mr. Foianini has over 7 years of experience in the oil industry, primarily in midstream operations. Tyson started his professional career with the Crimson team in 2016 as a Pipeline Engineer. In his current role, he oversees the technical dimensions of engineering endeavors, fosters cross-departmental collaboration, aligning teams with project and company objectives. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming, and currently holds his Project Management Professional certification.
Director of Business Development
Robyn Kagy is the Director of Business Development at Crimson. Ms. Kagy has 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. She joined Crimson in 2018 and has commercial responsibility for its California crude oil pipelines and assets in the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California. Ms. Kagy began her career in the oil industry at Kinder Morgan where she was responsible for the commercial activities of their pipeline assets and refined products terminals in the Pacific Region. Ms. Kagy holds a B.A. in Economics from University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, and a Master of Business Administration from Brandman University (a Chapman University System), Irvine, CA.
